Astra Handball Club Coaching Staff

Astra HC encourages and continuously promotes the technical and tactical development and improvement of its coaches.  We require all coaches to attend workshops in child protection and good practice in sport.

Astra HC are among the most qualified coaches in Ireland and they constantly strive for improvement.  Astra HC coaches have attended the European Handball Federation coaching seminars (EHF Top Coaches seminar 2008,2010,2012; EHF Youth Coaches course 2010,2011,2012; EHF Open Master Coach and Licensing Course 2012) and we aim to have coaches attending valuable and pertinent coaching courses or forums, such as the Coaching Ireland Coaching Forum 2008 and 2010.


 

Alex Markovic

Studied Physical Education and Biology at Comenius University Brastislava and played for second division HC Tatran Supava for 4 seasons.

After graduation played for home town Povazska Bystrica in Champions League and also started coaching youth teams in the club.

Came to Ireland in the autumn 2004 and joined the handball club at St.Patrick’s College, won the league as a playing coach in 2007 as a double for St.Pats as ladies won their final match as well. – More –


 

Andrea Ongaro

Andrea Ongaro

Andrea has a A-licence (EHF Level III) handball coaching qualification.  He has previously coached the Irish Senior women’s squad and brought the Irish Women’s U-21 team to the World Championships qualification tournament in Iceland in 2008.  He also brought the Astra women’s team to participate in the EHF Challenge Cup in 2009 where they acquitted themselves very well.  Andrea has coached in a number of clubs in Ireland as well as in Italy where he coached for many years before coming to Ireland. – More –


 

Andrés Eiriksson

Andres is originally from Iceland and has lived in Ireland for many years.  He is a historian by profession and is a Coaching Ireland tutor in handball.  He has coached many young groups of players over the years in Terenure, the Muslim school in Clonskeagh and numerous underage national squads.  He has brought youth teams to the Partille Cup in Sweden, the biggest youth handball tournament in the world.  He has also coached the club and Irish Senior Women’s squads and is very active in handball development.
